Seven pages for twenty years of Vienna's media industry
asteria medien · B2B communications agency, Vienna
A communications agency that knows what a good web presence looks like. The bar was high. The result: asteriamedien.at.
Context
The client who thinks along
Thomas Strachota built Vienna's largest free newspaper into market leadership. Twenty years in the media industry means you spot instantly whether a website works or just looks nice. His brief was short: the site has to work like we do. Direct, no frills.
"Good communication starts with a conversation." The first sentence on the homepage. Not a slogan. A working principle.
Storytelling
A homepage that builds trust
B2B decision-makers have little time and have seen it all. The homepage couldn't be a service catalog. It had to show in seconds: this agency knows its craft.
-
01
An opening like a film
The homepage opens with Vienna at night. Golden constellations in the sky, the skyline in the background, and one sentence: "Good communication starts with a conversation." No service slider, no welcome text. An opening that sets a mood.
-
02
Attitude over enumeration
Four service areas framed as commitments: "We think ahead. We execute. We develop ideas." Plus their own hosting. Each area with a custom constellation icon instead of generic pictograms.
-
03
Vienna as a character
The about section shows no company timeline. It shows attitude. The Viennese skyline at night, paired with: "Viennese agency, personally on-site." That's enough. Whoever wants more, scrolls on.
-
04
Twenty years in seven voices
The testimonials don't come from agency clients. They come from people who worked with Thomas over twenty years. Real names, real stories. The trust was there before the agency was founded.
-
05
Invitation over forms
"Your project deserves a personal conversation." That's how the page ends. One sentence, one button, no ten mandatory fields. Reaching Thomas takes thirty seconds.
Each of the seven pages follows the same principle: show first, then invite. None ends without a next step.
Implementation
Navy, gold, and constellations
The color palette was clear from the start: dark navy as the stage, gold as the accent. No corporate blue, no stock photo aesthetics. Plus a custom icon system of constellation illustrations. Compass for strategy, pen for design, lightbulb for ideas. Recognizable without being generic.
Strategy
Positioning analysis, content strategy, information architecture, SEO & GEO audit
Design
Design system, constellation iconography, typography, responsive layout
Engineering
Custom CMS, admin panel, portfolio, hosting, deployment
Quality
Accessibility (aligned with WCAG 2.2 AA), automated quality assurance, performance optimization
What makes this site tick
Constellation iconography
Each service area has its own constellation. Compass, pen, lightbulb, server. A visual system that carries the brand, instead of off-the-shelf icons.
Hero video
The homepage opens cinematically: Vienna at night, golden constellations, a single sentence. No slider, no carousel. An opening visitors don't skip.
Performance
Lean code, optimized images, no framework overhead. The site loads fast, even on a phone with poor signal.
Accessibility
Skip links, ARIA labels, keyboard navigation, verified contrast ratios. Aligned with WCAG 2.2 AA.
Result
Florian understood right away how we work. The website shows who we are. Without us having to explain it. That was the brief. And that's exactly what came out.
